Building India's Startup Ecosystem Takes More Than Building Startups

India's startup ecosystem has made remarkable progress but as it matures, the focus must shift from building more startups to investing in the people behind them. Kruu's InvestED, now recognised as an Official Service Partner with MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), offers an AI-powered, research-backed framework to help founders, mentors, and institutions understand entrepreneurial capabilities more deeply. This partnership reflects a shared belief: meaningful growth begins with understanding people before measuring outcomes. Because startups don't build ecosystems people do.

Building India's Startup Ecosystem Takes More Than Building Startups

For the last few years, India has focused on building a stronger startup ecosystem. More startups have been launched, more founders have stepped forward with bold ideas and more support has become available through investors, incubators, mentors and government initiatives. Today, entrepreneurship has become one of the country's biggest drivers of innovation and growth.

This progress is worth celebrating. It shows how far the ecosystem has come and what is possible when different parts of the ecosystem work towards the same goal.

But every stage of growth brings a new challenge.

For many years, the priority was clear. India needed more startups, so the focus was on helping entrepreneurs turn their ideas into businesses and those efforts have paid off. Today, founders have better access to funding, mentorship, incubators and government support than ever before.

Now, the conversation needs to move a step further. Building more startups will always matter but we also need to spend more time helping the people behind those startups learn, grow and make better decisions because, in the end, every business grows with the person building it.

Looking Beyond the Business

When we evaluate a startup, we naturally begin with the business. We look at the product, the market opportunity, the business model and its potential for growth. Investors, incubators and accelerators all have their own ways of identifying promising ventures because these evaluations help decide where time, funding and support should go.

But they often leave one important question unanswered.

How well do we understand the person building the business?

Every startup changes over time. Products improve, markets evolve and strategies change but the founder remains at the centre of every important decision. Success depends not only on the strength of an idea but also on the person making those decisions every single day.

These qualities rarely appear in a business plan or a pitch deck, yet they often have the biggest influence on whether a startup succeeds. Perhaps that is one of the biggest opportunities for India's startup ecosystem today.

A Different Way of Looking at Founder Development

The more we reflected on founder development, the more we realised that the ecosystem was not lacking support. Founders already have access to funding, mentorship, incubators and strong networks. The bigger opportunity was to make that support more meaningful by helping them better understand themselves.

That thinking has shaped much of what we have been building at Kruu. Whether we work with students, educators or entrepreneurs, one belief has remained constant: meaningful growth begins by understanding people before measuring outcomes.

It led us to a simple question.

Can technology help us understand entrepreneurs better and not to replace human judgement but to strengthen it?

That question eventually became the foundation for InvestED.

A Different Approach to Founder Development

InvestED was never created to become another assessment platform. The startup ecosystem already has enough ways to evaluate businesses. What it needed was a better way to understand the people building those businesses. We believed founders deserve the same attention as the startups they are building because every important business decision begins with the person making it.

Built on an AI-powered, research-backed framework, InvestED generates structured insights into entrepreneurial capabilities that support founder development, informed mentoring and better decision-making. It is not designed to predict success or replace human judgement. Instead, it helps founders, mentors, incubators, investors and institutions have better conversations and make more informed decisions.

For us, technology has never been about replacing people. It is about helping people make better decisions. If it can strengthen the support founders receive throughout their journey, then it has already begun creating meaningful value.

But no platform, organisation or institution can build a stronger startup ecosystem on its own. Helping founders grow has always been a shared responsibility.

Every startup benefit from an ecosystem that brings together investors, mentors, incubators, academic institutions, industry and government initiatives. Each of them plays a different role but together they create the support founders need to learn, build and grow. Strong startups are rarely built in isolation because they are built in strong ecosystems.

This is why organisations like MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, play such an important role. By bringing together startups, incubators, Centres of Excellence, academia, investors, industry and government on a collaborative platform, they are helping strengthen the ecosystem that enables entrepreneurship itself.

That vision strongly resonates with us at Kruu.

Some partnerships happen because organisations bring different strengths. The most meaningful ones happen because they believe in the same purpose.

Throughout this journey, we have believed that building a stronger startup ecosystem starts with investing in the people behind it. MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), an initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, shares that belief by working to strengthen India's innovation ecosystem through collaboration across startups, incubators, academia, investors, industry and government.

It is this shared vision that has brought InvestED and MeitY Startup Hub together.

We are proud to share that InvestED has been recognised as the Official Service Partner for MeitY Startup Hub (MSH). For us, this partnership is much more than a milestone. It reflects a shared commitment to helping founders grow through better insights, stronger support systems and more informed decision-making.

Through this collaboration, InvestED will contribute its AI-powered, research-backed founder capability evaluation to support mentoring, ecosystem initiatives and founder development across the country. More importantly, it shows what becomes possible when organisations with a shared purpose work together to strengthen the ecosystem.

This recognition is encouraging but it also reminds us that the real work begins now.

At Kruu, our goal has never been to build just another platform. It has always been to create technology that helps founders make better decisions, helps mentors provide better guidance and contributes to a stronger startup ecosystem.

India has already shown what is possible when entrepreneurship is encouraged and innovation is supported. The next chapter will not be defined only by the number of startups we create but by how intentionally we invest in the people building them.

Because startups don't build ecosystems.

People do. And the strongest ecosystems are the ones that continue investing in them.
